What to watch out for when dealing with external recruiters

Is this your first time trying to hire with the use of recruiters? Are you traumatized by a bad experience when dealing with recruiters?

Using external recruiters definitely has its benefits, but if you’re not careful, the whole experience can scar you…

  1. Sit down and decide what you need to hire
Recruiters are professionals and can often give you valuable suggestions on the market, but they aren’t magicians. You’re going to need to put in the work to figure out what you want to hire and express your needs to your recruiters. They’ll only be able to return a good shortlist if you are able to elaborate on your hiring plans.
  2. Choose your recruiters wisely!
There are about 1.5 million recruiters in the world and the chances are you have more choices than you’d like when it comes to making a decision. Find out more about your recruiters’ specialisms, market reputation, and industry knowledge before you decide to engage them. They are supposed to be the brand ambassadors of your company, so choose your recruiters wisely!
  3. Read VERY carefully on their Terms of Business
Different agencies have different terms and while they may all look similar to each other, you will need to get into the details. Consider hiring a legal advisor to go through these terms to assess any risks. A few things to really watch out for are: guarantee period (the ‘probationary’ period where the agency is supposed to provide a rebate or candidate replacement), credit note (the amount of rebate you are entitled to if no replacement is provided), and payment terms (how much and when a placement fee is due).

Hiring through external recruiters can make your life much easier if you use the right ones! At FindRecruiter, you can have a peace of mind dealing with vetted specialist recruiters with a universal contract that protects you.

In-House vs. Agency Recruiting

There’s a myth that in-house recruitment is a lot more boring than external recruitment. You get less recognition; you’re treated as a paper-pusher; you can’t earn as much money. All of these CAN be true if you ALLOW it to be true.
